Base layers hey? So what’s it all about?
Anyone doing a moderate amount of excercise is going to sweat, and some materials such as cotton hold that moisture, so if you’re wearing an ordinary t-shirt, then its going to get wet pretty quickly. Reasons why wet t-shirts are not a good idea (no really they’re not, and don’t picture that):
1. Moisture conducts heat exceptionally well, so as soon as you stop for a breather you’re going to chill down very quickly
2. Wet fabrics are uncomfortable and things will start to chafe
3. There’s no point in wearing an expensive waterproof/breathable jacket, if you’re going to feel wet anyway. You may as well take the jacket off, or wear a bin bag.
4. No-one wants to look like a sweaty beast.
